Vintage Cartier Santos

The Cartier Santos range of watches (or the Santos de Cartier) is a popular collection that dates back over 100 years. Luis Cartier – the founder of Cartier – created a timepiece for a friend with the purpose of providing accurate time keeping for the aviation industry. More recently the Cartier Santos 100 collection has been created in recognition of the original watches century anniversary.

Cartier Santos watches are named after the aviator who first used them – Alberto Santos-Dumont. Before this watch was created it was difficult for a pilot to accurately keep track of time. Since then the Santos range has included a number of watches for both casual and professional use.

The Cartier Santos 100 range is available in both men’s and women’s version so there is something for everyone. There is also a variety of materials used for creating the collection. For example, some use gold while other use steel. Along with the different straps that are available this creates a large number of combinations. The designs of the Santos collection also vary. All use the classic square watch face design however.

How much a Cartier Santos costs depends on a number of factors including which material is used, whether there are any complications and what the strap is made of. For this reason it’s difficult to get an idea of how much you can expect to pay. There are different features that you need to consider too. Some Santos timepieces come with a perpetual calendar that’s pre-set to a certain date (in many cases this is 2100). It’s important to think about your requirements before choosing the Santos that’s right for you.

Another example is the Cartier Santos 100 Men’s watch. With an updated yet still traditional style these watches bring the Santos collection into the 21^st century.  Again, this watch costs around $6000.

Collections included within the Cartier Santos range include the Demoiselle, the De Cartier Galbee, 100 and the Dumont. While all the collections have similarities they each utilize unique designs and style. You also need to think about which Santos watch is the right size for you as they come in a range of sizes.
