Rolex Yachtmaster

The Rolex Yachtmaster is one of Rolex’s most popular creations. Yachtmasters are sports watches and have been manufactured by Rolex since 1992. There are both men’s and women’s versions available and the watch can be bought in a number of different materials including platinum, yellow gold and stainless steel.

More recently the Yachtmaster II has been released (sometimes referred to as the Rolex Skipper Watch). This watch is specifically created for sailors as it includes a 90 degree bezel and a countdown function that can be programmed. The Yachtmaster II also includes automatic movement.

One of the defining features of the Rolex Yachtmaster II is the ring command bezel. As Rolex point out in their sales material, many watches have bezels that aren’t linked to the internal mechanism of the timepiece. This isn’t the case with the Ring Command bezel as the chronograph is linked to it. What this means is that the user has a larger amount of control over tasks such as setting a countdown. It’s also useful for sailors looking to clock multiple start times. The real beauty of the Ring Command is that although it’s difficult to create it’s straightforward to use.

Rolex Yachtmaster watches are made using only the finest materials. All Rolex watches are made with metals that are as pure as possible whilst still being durable and aesthetically pleasing. The companies repeated statement that they have an “obsession with perfection” holds true for the materials used for the Yachtmaster.

Another feature is the triplock winding crown. This mechanism helps to keep the movement of the watch safe from any water or dust. The purpose of the winding crown is to tightly seal the inner mechanism of the watch which helps to make the Rolex Yachtmaster much more durable than other watches.

As you’d expect, the movement of the Yachtmaster and Yachtmaster II is highly complicated and a major engineering feat. According to the Rolex website over 35,000 hours of development were spent on the inner movement of the Yachtmaster to make it as precise as possible. There are not many watches that can match the quality of the Yachtmaster movement.

Most Yachtmaster watches come with a COSC chronometer certification to prove their accuracy and reliability. Many are waterproof down to a depth of 100m and are also self winding. The sizes included within the range include 35mm, 40mm and 44mm.

When selecting the watch material when buying any sort of watch there are several things to keep in mind. Firstly, you need to remember that the material used for the watch case is not necessarily the same as that used for the strap. You also need to carefully consider getting the right size watch for your wrist.

If you are considering buying a pre owned or used Rolex then you should take time to read our posts on this topic and do some serious research before ordering. Buying pre owned watches is a great hobby, and a good investment, provided you know what you are doing and do not end up with a fake, or a watch that has been cobbled together from spares!
